Campbell Riverites packed city hall’s gallery at last night’s council meeting.
Grass Roots Kind Hearts presented to council for the need of a sobering assessment centre in the city.
Spokesperson Diane Palmer says they received over 850 signatures in support of the centre in the city.
Mayor Adam Adams says in 2014 to 2015, BC Housing invested $5.2 million dollars to support more than 700 households in the Campbell River area, as well the city providing $45,000 to the Food Bank and social needs initiatives in 2016 alone.
Adams noted the city will continue to work on the shelter, find a mutual agreement on where dinners can be served, as well as find a permanent facility.
